Region: Bieszczady Mountains
Bieszczady – mountain range belongs to the Eastern Beskids, which are part of the Outer Eastern Carpathians. They are divided into: Western Bieszczady (in Poland and Ukraine) and Eastern Bieszczady (in Ukraine). The highest peak of the Bieszczady Mountains is Pikuj (1,405 m above sea level, in Ukraine), and in Poland – Tarnica (1,346 m above sea level).
The characteristic landscape of the Bieszczady Mountains is formed by mountain meadows, i.e. subalpine and alpine communities, stretching from the upper edge of the forest to the highest peaks. It is a natural layer of vegetation, the range of which has been extended by human activity (sheep and cattle grazing).
