Region: Opawa Mountains

Opawa Mountains (Zlatohorská vrchovina) – mesoregion included in the Jeseníky mountain range (part of Jeseníky), in the Eastern Sudetes, in the Czech Republic and partly in Poland, with the highest peak: Příčný vrch (975 m above sea level), located in the Czech Republic. The highest mountain of the Polish part of the Opawskie Mountains is considered to be Biskupia Kopa (891 m above sea level).
The gelogic structure is varied. The massif of Parkowa Góra is built of metamorphic rocks: gneisses, mica slates, as well as amphibolites and quartzites. The remaining part is made of sedimentary and poorly metamorphized rocks, the so-called sea clastic facies “kulmu”, formed in the Upper Devonian and Lower Carboniferous. The massifs of Biskupia Kopa and Olszak are made of phyllites.
