Region: Suchedniów Plateau

Suchedniów Plateau – a plateau located in the northern part of the Kielce Upland. From the north it borders the Opoczno Hills, the Gielniów Hillock and the Iłża Piedmont, from the south it borders the Świętokrzyskie Mountains, from the west it borders the Łopuszno Hills and from the east it borders the Sandomierz Upland. It is made of Lower Triassic sandstones, here and there covered with Pleistocene sands and clays. The terrain is formed by domed elevations 300–400 m a.s.l. and denudation basins. The highest elevation is Świnia Góra with a height of 390 m a.s.l.

The plateau is mostly covered with the forests of the Świętokrzyskie Forest. Peat bogs and wet meadows have been preserved in the depressions of the terrain. The most important species of forest trees occur here: fir, pine, spruce, beech, oak as well as ash and sycamore maple. In addition, forest complexes are the main refuge for Polish larch. Yew also occurs here in natural locations. Compact forest complexes occupy areas never used for agriculture, hence they are characterized by a high degree of naturalness.

In order to protect the best preserved fragments of the Świętokrzyskie Forest, nature reserves were established: Góra Dobrzeszowska Reserve, Skały w Krynki Reserve, Wykus Reserve, Bliżyn Reserve, Dalejów Reserve, Świnia Góra Reserve, Górna Krasna Reserve.

There are also many inanimate natural monuments here, including: Brama Piekielna rocks, Piekło rock cliff and Piekło Dalejowskie rocks.
