Region: Uznam and Wolin Islands
Uznam and Wolin Islands – a physical and geographical mesoregion in north-western Poland belonging to the Szczecin Coast. It includes the island of Uznam, most of the island of Wolin, as well as smaller islands in the backward delta of Świna.
Wolin and Uznam are among the largest Baltic islands. They constitute the southern shore of the Pomeranian Bay. From the south it is surrounded by the Szczecin Lagoon. From the east, Wolin is separated from the mainland by the Dziwna River with the Kamieński Reservoir, and from the west
the Świna River. Usedom is washed from the west by the Piana (Peene) River. There are 42 smaller islands between Wolin and Usedom. Apart from the island of Karsibór, they are uninhabited. The area of the Wolin and Uznam islands is 265 km² and 445 km², respectively, of which 16% of the latter’s area, i.e. 72 km², is located in Poland.
