Region: Čergov Mountains

Čergov Mountains – mountain range in northern Slovakia. It belongs to the Eastern Beskids in the chain of the Inner Eastern Carpathians. The highest peak is Minčol with a height of 1157 m a.s.l.

The range has the shape of an ellipse with the longer axis running from the north-west to the south-east. From the east it borders with the Ondavská vrchovina, from the south with the Beskydské predhorie, from the west with the Spišsko-šarišské medzihorie, and in the north, apart from the Ľubovnianska vrchovina, it forms a smaller part of the state border with Poland.

The Čergov Mountains are built mainly of Carpathian flysch. They are built of coarse-grained and even conglomerate sandstones of the Magura beds. From the south-west they are accompanied by limestone rocks of the Pieniny Klippen Belt.
The Čergov Mountains are covered with mixed forests with a predominance of deciduous trees, mostly beech, but also sycamore, hornbeam, oak and birch. Spruce grows here from conifers. Forests are a refuge for many species of animals, including large mammals. The top parts of the range are covered with pastures reminiscent of the Bieszczady Mountains.
