Region: Orava Beskid Mountains
Orava Beskid Mountains – the Slovak part of the Orava-Żywiec Beskid Mountains (Oravsko-Żywiecké Beskydy), a mountain range lying on the Slovak-Polish border. In Poland, the name of this range was previously called the Żywiec Beskid Mountains (Beskid Żywiecki) and now, according to the new regionalization, it is the Żywiec-Orawa Beskid Mountains (Beskid Żywiecko-Orawski).
Orava Beskid Mountains are built of flysch rocks. They stretch in the northern part of Orava and on the eastern edge of Kysúce. The northern edge of the mountain range (as well as the border with the Żywiec-Orawa Beskid Mountains) runs along the state border from the Príslop pass to the Pod Palkošom pass. Here the border of the mountain range turns from south to west and leads through a forested area to the north, creating a relatively narrow strip of territory, up to 15 km wide. From the south it borders on Podbeskydská brázda, west from the village of Novoť Podbeskydská vrchovina and from the Demänová pass to Kysucká vrchovina. Here the border leads into the valley to the village of Vychylovka, where it turns north-east and continues through the Vychylovka valley in the vicinity of the Kysuce Beskydy Mountains to the Príslop Pass.
