Tag - Gęsia Szyja
Gęsia Szyja Mountain – a peak with a height of 1489 m a.s.l. in the eastern part of the Tatra Mountains in Poland. It is the highest peak of the Gęsia Szyja massif. The southern slopes descend to the Waksmundzka Valley, to the east there is a ridge descending to Rusinowa Polana, to the north there are smaller ridges descending to the forks of Filipczański Potok and Złoty Potok, to the west Gęsia Szyja borders Suchy Wierch Waksmundzki. The Gęsia Szyja massif is located between two large valleys: the Dry Water Valley to the west and the Białka Valley to the east.
Gęsia Szyja is composed of sedimentary rocks of organic origin – limestones, dolomites, marls – covering crystalline rocks with a thick layer. In the top parts there are rocks raised to approx. 15 m.
The slopes of Gęsia Szyja are covered with upper montane spruce forest from an altitude of 1250 m above sea level to the very top. The numerous spruce here is often accompanied by rowan. On the soils rich in calcium carbonate, there are almost twice as many species in the ground cover layer as in the spruce forests growing on the slopes of the crystalline part of the Tatras. In addition to typical forest species, there are plants known from fertile, lower montane mixed forests. In the limestone spruce forest, you can find, among others, sharp fern, glandular honeysuckle and the alpine vine Clematis alpina.
From the top, there is a wide panorama of the Tatras from the Bielskie Tatras through the High Tatras to the Western Tatras. In the gaps of trees from the north, there are views of the Żywiec-Orawski Beskids, the Gorce Mountains and the Sądecki Beskids.
