Tag - Jaworzyna Range
Jaworzyna Range – a mountain range in the Sącz Beskid Mountains stretching from Rytro nad Popradem to Tylicz. From the west, it begins with the Makowica peak (949 m) and runs south-east through Pisana Hala (1044 m) and Runek (1082 m) to Jaworzyna (1114 m), ending in the transverse valley of Kryniczanka (a tributary of the Muszynka). A side branch runs from Runek eastwards with peaks: Przysłop (914 m), Jaworzynka (904 m) and Huzary (866 m). From the west and southwest, the border is formed by the deep Poprad valley. This river separates the Jaworzyna Range from the second range of these mountains – the Radziejowa Range and from the Lubowelskie Mountains. From the north-east, the slopes of the Jaworzyna Range descend to the Kamienica valley, separating them from the Low Beskids. In the southeast, the Muszynka Valley separates them from the Leluchowskie Mountains. The Jaworzyna Krynicka range is about 17 km long and the width between the Poprad valley and the Kamienica valley is 10 to 15 km.
The main ridge is level, its peaks do not rise much above the passes separating them, and are often almost flat. The northern slopes are clearly different from the southern ones. Quite long, but uniform and usually forested and without views, side ridges descend to the north from the main ridge. On the other hand, the ridges descending to the Poprad are longer, in the final section steeply undercut by the Poprad. They are also much more scenic and usually treeless.
The Jaworzyna Range is mainly covered by beech-fir forests of the lower montane zone. In the higher parts, there are areas of beech-spruce forest resulting from spruce plantings. On the ridges there are still clearings used for pastoral purposes, although there are much fewer of them than before. The entire ridge was occupied by huge shepherd’s pastures, and there were also numerous clearings on the side ridges and their slopes. Sheep and cattle were grazed on them, some were mown, and in lower locations there were also arable fields. Unused clearings, which were a centuries-old episode in the history of the Sądecki Beskids, are gradually overgrown by forest.
