Tag - Krzywy Sąd Rock
Krzywy Sąd Rock – a rock in the Tenczynek Hills, on the eastern slopes of Zachruście Hill, which descend into the Aleksandrowice Valley. To the south, it borders the Głowa Słonia Rock. The rock’s summit is 293 meters above sea level. The rock is composed of hard, rocky limestone from the Late Jurassic period. It was formed 140 million years ago on the seabed from the skeletons of cyanobacteria and sponges. The rock is 15–18 meters high. Rock climbing is practiced on its northeastern, vertical face.
The slopes around the rock are covered with oak-hornbeam forest, while the summit is exposed. To the south, a distant view unfolds. In the foreground are the hills of the Krakow Bridge and the Wieliczka Foothills, in the background are the Wyspowy Beskid and Makowski Beskid Mountains, and in the distance, on clear days, the Gorce Mountains can be seen.
The rock is associated with a legend about Count Mateusz, owner of Morawica Castle. Based on his accusation, the court sentenced the innocent squire to death by being thrown from the rock.
The rock is located within the Tenczyński Landscape Park. The “Aleksandrowice Valley” hiking and educational trail runs alongside the rock.
