Tag - Lipowski Wierch and Romanka Group
Lipowski Wierch and Romanka Group – a mountain range in the Żywiec-Orawai Beskid Mountains. To the south, it borders the Pilsko Group, with its western and northern slopes descending to the Soła and Koszarawa valleys. The range consists of the Romanka ridge and the Lipowski Wierch ridge. Smaller side ridges branch off from them.
The higher sections of the ridges are covered with upper-montane spruce forest, while the lower slopes are covered with lower-montane forest with fir-spruce forest communities and acidophilous mountain beech. In the Romanka peaks, covering an area of 125 hectares, the Romanka Nature Reserve was established to protect the upper-montane spruce forest.
The ridges contain several clearings (former shepherd’s pastures), providing excellent viewpoints. These include the Sucha Góra Clearing, the Cerchla Clearing, and the Michalskiego, Borucz, Boracza, Bacmańska, Cukiernica Niżna, Cukiernica Wyżna, Gawłowska, Bieguńska, Koziarka, Lipowska, Łyśniowska, Majcherkowa, Pawlusia, Redykalna, Rysianka, Skórzacka, and Wieprzska meadows.
On the ridge of Lipowski Wierch and below Redykalny Wierch are mud bogs and peat bogs. Numerous rock steps and waterfalls can be found in the stream beds, the largest and most famous of which is the 10-meter-high Sopotnia Wielka Waterfall. Ridge ditches and rift ridges are found on the Lipowski Wierch plateaus. These are landslide-related, and landslide processes are still active here. There are also several caves, including the largest cave in Sopotnia Wielka, 101 meters long, and the most famous cave in Boracza. In the valley of the Smelling Stream, at the foot of Boraczy Wierch, there is a spring of hydrogen sulphide mineral water.
