Tag - Velký Polom Mountain
Velký Polom – a peak at an altitude of 1067 m a.s.l. in the Moravian-Silesian Beskids, on the Czech-Slovak border. It is the highest peak of the Velký Polom Massif, which is the easternmost part of the Moravian-Silesian Beskids. From the west it borders the Muřinkový vrch peak and from the east the Čerchlaný beskyd peak. The north-western slopes descend to the Lomná Basin and the streams flowing down them flow into the Olza River. The Velký Polom Nature Reserve was established here to protect the spruce-beech forest, with an admixture of fir and maple, with trees reaching an age of 230 years. The southern slopes descend to Kysuce and here, on the Slovak side, the Veľký Polom Nature Reserve was established. The reserve was established to preserve beech-fir-spruce forest communities with a large predominance of spruce, preserved in their natural state.
At the top, distant views of the Little Fatra Mountains, the Kysucké Beskydy, the Silesian Beskid Mountains and the Maple Mountains open up in places.
The peak is crossed by the red-marked Třinec – Nad Bumbálkou hiking trail and the blue-marked Korcháňovci – Veľký Polom hiking trail.
