Tag - Żar Mountain
Żar Mountain – a peak at an altitude of 761 m a.s.l. located in the eastern part of the Mały Beskid Mountains, informally called the Andrychów Beskid, in a ridge extending north-west from Wielka Cisowa Grapa Mountain, which through Wielki Cisownik Mountain, Izebnicka Pass, Kiczora and Żar Mountain descends to Międzybrodzie Lake. From the east it borders Kiczera, the western slopes descend steeply to Międzybrodzie Lake, the south-eastern slopes descend to the Isepnica stream valley and the northern ones to the Mała Puszcza stream valley.
The peak is exposed due to the significant degree of development. It offers a panoramic view of the Żywiec Basin with Żywiec Lake, the Magurka Wilkowicka Range with Czupel and Rogacz Mountain, the Barania Góra and Skrzyczne Ranges in the Silesian Beskids, and Romanka and Pilsko Mountains in the Żywiec-Orawsa Beskid Mountains.
In 2004, a 1,300 m long funicular railway was built to the top. In the winter, two ski lifts and ski trails operate. There are catering points and places for tourists to rest at the upper station of the railway. Cycling routes have been marked out as part of the Bikepark “Góra Żar”.
At the top is the upper reservoir of the Porąbka-Żar pumped-storage power plant, the second largest in Poland, built in 1971-1979.
The peak is crossed by the Mały Szlak Beskidzki trail (marked in red), the Wilczy Jar – Żar trail (marked in green) and the Międzybrodzie Żywieckie – Żar connecting trail (marked in black).
