Klonów Range
Klonów Range – a range in the northern part of the Świętokrzyskie Mountains. It stretches latitudinally for approximately 19 km, from Zagnańsk in the Bobrza Valley in the west to the vicinity of Bodzentyn in the east. The southern slopes of the range descend into the Wilkowska Valley and the Lubrzanka Valley, while the northern slopes descend into the Psarka Valley.
The Klonów Range is composed primarily of resistant Devonian sandstones and quartzites. In its eastern part, on Bukowa Góra, numerous blocks and monoliths of rock, approximately 5 meters high, are found. Clear traces of erosion and weathering processes are visible on the rocks. The rock relief is diversified by vertical clefts and larger rock fractures. The rocks were originally formed as sandy sediment from a shallow body of water. Imprints of brachiopod shells can be seen in some varieties of the Klonów Range sandstones. Where the rock consists almost exclusively of brachiopod remains and fossils, we encounter so-called spirifer sandstone.
The range is largely covered by beech and fir forest. Bukowa Góra on the eastern side is covered by fertile Carpathian beech forest with glandular beech, and Sudeten beech forest with a slightly different species composition. This distinct forest type from the dominant Fir Forest resulted in this part of the Klonowski Range being incorporated into the Świętokrzyski National Park in 1996. In the western part of the range, the Barcza Reserve was established in 1984 to protect exposures of Lower Devonian rocks, primarily tuffites, which constitute valuable evidence of volcanism in the Świętokrzyskie Mountains.
The main peaks of the range are: Bukowa Góra (484 m), Barcza (465 m), Czostek (429 m), Miejska Góra (426 m), Wasińskiego Górka (418 m), Psarska Góra (415 m), Chełmowa Mountain (399 m), and Jończykowa Górka (390 m).
The green-marked Jerzy Głowacki Trail and the yellow-marked Barcza-Bukowa Góra hiking trail run through the range.
