Tag - Pilsko Reserve

Pilsko Nature Reserve – a nature reserve located on the north-eastern slopes of Pilsko, in the Żywiec-Orawa Beskid Mountains. The reserve was established in 1971 and expanded in 2005. It currently covers an area of ​​105.21 ha. The purpose of protection in the Pilsko Reserve is to preserve, for scientific, educational and landscape reasons, fragments of the upper montane spruce forest and non-forest ecosystems, dwarf pine and shrub grasslands with their entire species richness. The reserve occupies most of the peak part of the Pilsko massif on the Polish side. It reaches up to 1534 m a.s.l.

The peculiarities of the reserve include: dwarf pine thickets, monkshood, ribwort, juniper clubmoss, red clubmoss, alpine coltsfoot and the Western Carpathian endemic Carpathian urchin. In the reserve there are traces of the presence of large predators: lynx, wildcat, wolf and brown bear, and you can also see gallinaceous birds: capercaillie and hazel grouse.
